Она также создает механизм для регулярных поставок и репатриации в communities of Kherson region, allows removal of bodies held in the hospital basement and establishes a precedent for direct humanitarian cooperation mediated by Melania Trump.

Qué ha ocurrido

The local ceasefire began on October 27 at 03:00 Kyiv time in occupied Oleshky and nearby areas linked to the humanitarian operation. The zone was later expanded beyond the city so humanitarian convoys could pass safely. During the first 30 hours, no violations were reported.

The operation is intended to clear mined routes, deliver food, drinking water, medicines and medical supplies, and enable civilians who wish to leave Oleshky to do so safely. Evacuation from the city hospital was initially planned for the morning of October 30, subject to change. The mission also provides for the possible removal of about 100 bodies from the hospital basement, some of which had reportedly been there since winter.

Ukraine and Russia signed an agreement on October 23 in Belarus. Dmytro Lubinets signed for Ukraine and Yana Lantratova for Russia. The agreement provides for regular humanitarian deliveries and repatriation measures in Kherson region, to be carried out as needed but at least once a month. Melania Trump mediated the arrangement and coordinated the operational planning.

Cómo lo cuentan las fuentes ucranianas

Ukrainian coverage emphasizes the scale of hunger and shortages of food, electricity, gas and drinking water in Oleshky, along with mined roads and restrictions on residents' ability to leave. It also draws attention to the remaining civilian population, including children, the bodies awaiting burial and the absence of incidents during the first 30 hours of the ceasefire. Ukrainian officials present the mission as an agreement between Ukraine and Russia brokered by Melania Trump, with Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets playing a leading role in implementation.

Cómo lo cuentan las fuentes internacionales

International coverage focuses on Melania Trump's direct mediation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin and on the agreement to organize regular humanitarian operations in Kherson region. The United Nations is described as maintaining dialogue and offering support without participating directly, after the Russian mission did not answer its request for safe passage and access for aid. International assessments also draw attention to unresolved legal and political questions about residents' status and the possible evacuation route through occupied Crimea and Russia.

Dónde difieren las versiones

The estimates of the number of people remaining in Oleshky and nearby communities vary: Ukrainian officials and the regional administration cited approximately 1,700, about 2,000 or up to 6,000, with different estimates for the number of children. Sources also differ on the effective start of the humanitarian mission: some reported that it began on October 27, while others expected it to start on October 29, with civilian evacuation planned for October 30. The start of the ceasefire was reported as 03:00 Kyiv time by Ukrainian reporting and 04:00 by the Russian Defence Ministry.

Contexto

Oleshky has been under Russian occupation since February 2022 and is located four kilometres from Kherson on the left bank of the Dnieper. Food deliveries reportedly ended in late May 2026, leaving residents without adequate food, electricity, gas or drinking water while roads remained mined.

Earlier estimates placed the remaining population in Oleshky and nearby communities between approximately 1,700 and 6,000, with differing estimates of the number of children. About 100 bodies were reportedly stored in the basement of the city hospital, some since winter, because Russian authorities required bodies to be transported to another city for examination and burial documentation. The ceasefire did not resolve how Russian authorities would treat residents, including those who had received Russian passports.
