Ukrainian military authorities said Russian forces used the humanitarian pause to move troops and equipment, reinforce positions, expand anti-drone protections and increase ammunition logistics. A Russian military spokesperson instead said troops restored fortifications, strengthened communications, moved personnel and evacuated wounded and dead soldiers. Some Ukrainian outlets also said that the claims about Russian use of the ceasefire could not be independently verified because of the fighting.

Contexto

Oleshki has been under Russian occupation since February 2022 and lies on the left bank of the Dnipro, about four kilometres from Kherson. More than 24,000 people lived there before the full-scale invasion; by late September, approximately 2,000 residents, including 50 children, remained. The destruction of the Kakhovka dam in June 2023 caused flooding and further constrained evacuation through damaged infrastructure and mined roads. The local hospital continued operating despite a severe shortage of medicines.
